When Phil McElhaney's wife sprained her ankle over July 4th weekend in 2006, he rushed her to an urgent care center. There she was treated by a family nurse practitioner (FNP). Both Phil and his wife were impressed by the care received.
The experience piqued a healthy curiosity in Phil to research the role of nurse practitioners in health care and the increasing trend of retail health clinics.
Wanting to bring convenient, basic health care to his community at an affordable price, Phil founded ExpressHealth Inc., in early 2007. ExpressHealth's first freestanding medical clinic opened in July 2007 in Augusta, Georgia.
